The Challenge of Emotions

Inevitabilities in college are going to happen regardless of what we do. The goal of the college prep program is to develop tolerance so we can charge through these difficulties. Building tolerance can be a push-pull. Many inevitabilities that occur in college can create uncomfortable feelings like anger, fear, sadness, depression, regret, and jealousy. As a result, we pull away from them because experiencing these emotions can be quite challenging. In doing that, situations can get worse, not better. By pushing through we begin to feel comfortable even while feeling uncomfortable. This program first helps to understand the inevitabilities in college and then to build tolerance by integrating the tools provided to help learn, combat, and lean into challenges.

The Goal of the Program

The New Transitions College Prep Program is tailored to assist young adults (aged 17-23) who are entering college in the upcoming semester or returning from a break. This initiative targets students who can gain from acquiring skills and techniques to successfully navigate the journey of college life. The skills taught in this program are aimed at fostering emotional and mental wellness, in addition to preparing students to manage the trials and pressures linked with living independently and transitioning into adulthood.
